FACT: Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women worldwide.

Since 2015, Canada and the United States have been reporting an increase in death rates for women from heart disease.

We need your help!

Historically, the impact of heart disease on women has not been recognized as much as it should be. As a result, when people think of heart disease, they often think of it happening to men, or have the image of a man clutching his chest in pain.

But did you know that…

  • Heart disease claims the life of 1 in 3 women worldwide.
  • One Canadian woman dies from heart disease every 20 minutes.
  • Heart disease kills 3x as many women as breast cancer.
  • Heart events are increasing among women aged 35-55 years.
  • 1/3 of women who have heart disease try to resume their pre-diagnosis lifestyles. But heart disease is a condition that requires lifelong management.

Your Challenge:

"How can we improve the health outcomes related to women's heart and vascular health in Canada over the next three years?"

Instructions

  • Class Registration

Register your class by Submitting an Application.

  • Class Brainstorm

As a class, brainstorm ideas to help improve the health outcomes related to women's heart health in Canada over the next 3 years. Group these ideas according to themes.

  • Team Planning and Development

Have the team work together to develop these ideas further.

  • Team Presentation and Evaluation

  • National Round

The top two ranked teams from the class will be entered into the national contest where they will have the opportunity to present their ideas (virtually) to a panel of judges comprised of healthcare professionals, patient advocates and educators from across Canada.

The national judging session will take place virtually the week of February 6 - 13, 2023. Submit your top two ranked teams via this online submission form by January 30, 2023.
