Heart disease is the number one killer of women worldwide and the leading cause of premature death in Canadian women. Much of what we know about the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease is based on research in men. Due to this lack of knowledge in women's heart disease, women are wrongly treated and diagnosed with heart disease. One half of women who experience a heart attack don’t even recognize their symptoms.    The objective of Wear Red Canada is to increase awareness of the risks and symptoms specific to women and encourage preventative action to improve women's heart health outcomes.
